Fans who are still reeling from Bea Smith's (Danielle Cormack) death in the fourth season finale of "Wentworth" found themselves dealing with another surprise from the show: Franky Doyle's (Nicole de Silva) return to the correctional facility.

Her return followed her encounter with celebrity chef Michael Pennisi (Felix Williamson), a man from her past. Their meeting led to her throwing scalding oil on his face, which, in turn, led to her getting thrown back into jail. The celebrity chef was discovered dead, and Franky is the primary suspect. She denies the claim even though the murder weapon was shown to bear her DNA.

Her return to the prison has led many to speculate that she will be the one to challenge Karen "Kaz" Proctor for the leadership position. Despite gaining the top dog position following Bea's death, Kaz's role seems to be precarious, as she does not seem to get the respect of the other inmates, so it is possible that someone will fight her as head of the group. It is also possible that she will challenge Joan "The Freak" Ferguson (Pamela Rabe), given that she was friends with Bea.

While Franky's confrontation with The Freak has not happened yet, Vera (Kate Atkinson) did duke it out with Ferguson and came out on top. Vera forced Officer Murphy (Katerina Kotsonis) to admit that she lost her pass, which allowed The Freak to kill Bea. However, Vera's victory might be short-lived, as Ferguson was shown to be talking to herself, promising vengeance. "She's taken everything you value: your job, your reputation, your freedom. Are you just gonna stand there and take it? Dismantle her, piece by piece, professionally, psychologically, emotionally. From the ashes, I am rising," she intoned.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Liz (Celia Ireland) will go against Sonia (Sigrid Thornton) by testifying against her during the latter's trial, in exchange for her early release. Her plan, which she initially tried to keep a secret, was discovered by Doreen (Shareena Clanton).

Season 5 of "Wentworth" airs every Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. AEST on Showcase.
