Since the engagement of Prince Harry and actress Meghan Markle, fans and spectators alike have been digging up information on Meghan's family background — including details about her father.

Meghan's father, Thomas "Tom" Markle was born in 1945 and is of Dutch-Irish origin. He is a lighting director by trade and won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Direction for the popular drama series "General Hospital" in 2011.

He met Meghan's mother Doria Ragland back when she was still a makeup artist. They were smitten with each other and married in 1979. They soon had baby Meghan in their lives but divorced when she was just six years old. Nevertheless, they loved their daughter just the same and supported her in anything that she did.

Apparently, Tom met Meghan's future husband during a trip to Canada last year. He was won over by the prince's demeanor and personality since the two started dating in 2016.

Meghan's half-brother Thomas Jr. only had good things to say about the father-daughter relationship.

"He's pretty happy about Harry and he's extremely proud of her. They have an amazing relationship, they're very close and they always have been," he expressed.

Tom was recently tracked down in Mexico and was asked about the upcoming wedding. He said that he was "very pleased" and "delighted" about Meghan and Harry's engagement.

Moreover, he expressed that he would love to walk his daughter down the aisle. Apparently, the buzz surrounding his daughter's rise to fame has made Tom into somewhat of a recluse. He was found near Rosarito Beach buying a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of beer.

Tom now lives in Mexico and is expected to attend the May ceremony along with Meghan's mother. Stay tuned for more reports as more royal wedding news unfolds.
