Why believing in the existence of God makes perfect sense
"Jesus answered them, 'This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.'"
John 6:29
It used to make me cringe when an atheist would tell me with such heavy conviction that there is absolutely no evidence that God exists. But one thing is true: that statement isn't true. There is such a great amount of evidence that does not only hint, but firmly proves the existence of a God who loves us.
Rick Warren once said, "You were made by God and for God, and until you understand that, life will never make sense." Believing and trusting in the existence of God is truly foundational to having a strong grasp of the meaning of this life. Without God, there is little reason to believe that there is meaning to anything and everything that we do.
Yet so many Christians think of God as a celestial prankster who's hiding behind clouds laughing at us when we don't get the clues. We think that God has left us with little to no evidence of His existence, but when you take a good look around you, there is so much evidence that points to the existence of God. God makes Himself more than available to all. He even came down in the form of man and gave so much startling evidence of His existence yet even then a lot of people would still say that there was a lack of evidence.
The problem of the uncertainty of God's existence has very little to do with the lack of evidence, and has more to do with the presence of conflict. God has always acknowledged the presence of conflict that would go against Him. Jesus even warns in Matthew 24:4, "See that no one leads you astray."
The reason why people don't believe in God is not because God gives no evidence of Himself, but because there is unwillingness to let go of what they already believe. But God has always made Himself evident to us. He does not hide His face from you leaving you with breadcrumbs to follow. He makes Himself manifest in the blessings you receive, the air you breathe, the matter you are made from, the people you meet and the miracles you experience.
God wants to make Himself known and He has made Himself known. In Romans 9:17, God declares, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." God is not hiding from you. He's just there, and He is a Person not just a concept. You just have to open your eyes and remove all conflict and opposition so that you may openly draw near to Him.
