For any boxing fan, seeing a fighter like Floyd Mayweather Jr. retire will leave a lot in dismay. However, this is assuming that Mayweather leaves the sport behind on a high note like maybe staging his last fight against a credible fighter.

Forget the money and the titles, it is all about exiting with a bang. With a wide roster of boxers to choose from, Mayweather had that luxury of choosing. Amir Khan was at the top of the list but in the end, Mayweather settled for two less popular boxers in Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield.

The two aren't exactly the names boxing followers would expect. In fact, many thought that Mayweather was just kidding around. But with September barely a month away, the joke seems to be on the boxing world right now with Andre Berto the unlikely chosen one.

No offense to Berto but Mayweather could have done better. So is this the reason why his next fight is not on pay-per-view? The fact that a Mayweather vs. Berto fight doesn't necessarily stand along the lines of mega bouts is enough reason to think that such may not be a match to look forward to.

Then again, Mayweather is simply aiming to get to 49-0, a cheap way to the eyes of many which Mayweather will surely not care about.

With that in mind, the next question is if Mayweather will retire. Some feel that Mayweather is simply buying time to level the 49-0 record of Rocky Marciano and probably take on one or two fights in 2016.

Now assuming that this is the plan, who could it be? Khan? Manny Pacquiao? Kell Brook? Keith Thurman? Gennady Golovkin? Timothy Bradley Jr.?

The list goes on. But one thing that Mayweather will certainly look at is how much money he can make from facing someone on the list.

Although many were disappointed, Pacquiao is still at the top of the list if revenue is to be a basis. It may not be as much as the first one but Pacquiao has his followers which could account for another good payday.

Rematch? Right now all that is irrelevant since Pacquiao is still in rehab. For Mayweather, well, expect the mind games to continue. He will deny it and so will Pacquiao. But once 2016 comes around, you can bet that talks will swirl once more regardless of a disappointing fight last May 2.
