Windows 10 release date: upgrade to roll out in 'waves'

Official Microsoft Blog

Although Microsoft has already pegged July 29 as the official release date of its new Windows 10 platform, it seems that not all who have reserved or who want to get the new operating system will get Windows 10 on the same date.

According to the post on the official Microsoft blog, not all people who anticipated getting Windows 10 will get the platform on July 29. Rather, the company is preparing the roll out to occur in "waves," checking first for compatibility issues and scheduling the release on a staggered basis.

On the schedule, the first to get the new Windows 10 when it rolls out on July 29 are those who are currently enrolled in the Windows Insider program. The users who are part of the beta program will be the first ones to receive the upgrade, since they are already using the preview build version of the upcoming platform, and have already prepared their devices to conform to Windows 10 requirements.

Meanwhile, those who have already made reservations for the upgrade will need to wait a bit longer, since they need to wait for the compatibility notifications and any system messages before the download process would be finished.

In addition, those whose devices will be found not to be compatible with the rollout version of Windows 10 may still opt to complete the upgrade process, and then head out to the Windows Store to change into compatible versions. The announcement reads:

"If your system is not ready yet for your upgrade to Windows 10, we will provide more details during the upgrade experience. In some cases, we will include contact information so you can follow up directly with an application provider or device manufacturer to learn more.

"For most upgrade incompatibilities, you may still choose to complete the upgrade, and find alternative compatible solutions in the Windows Store after you upgrade."
