George R.R. Martin's upcoming book 6 of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga, which is the inspiration behind the HBO hit series "Game of Thrones" is reportedly arriving next year.

According to MovieFone, such was confirmed by Alejo Cuervo, an editor at Ediciones Gigamesh, a Spanish publishing firm that holds the rights to Martin's books, during an interview with the El món a RAC1 radio station.

The interview, which was translated to English by Watchers on the Wall, a fan site for Game of Thrones, revealed that Cuervo is confident about the release of "Winds of Winter" next year, unless a meteor strikes earth.

Watchers on the Wall stated that Cuervo and Martin know each other personally so the former is considered as a very credible source.

Nothing has been confirmed by the author himself, who is definitely the most credible source for the news. However, Martin did express that he is determined to finish the book before the show starts a brand new season in spring, as reported in Entertainment Weekly.

"I wish it was out now. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I'm turning down a lot more interviews — anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done," the 66-year-old celebrity author said, according to the report.

Meanwhile, the HBO hit series "Game of Thrones" is currently filming its sixth season. It remains to be seen if the new season will be one with Martin's vision since the show has caught up with the books. However, the show has deviated from most of the plotlines found in the book.

There is also the lingering question of whether or not Jon Snow, played by Kit Harrington, is still alive. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that he's still working with the production despite his character being killed off in the previous season, reports Food World News.
