The author of the "Song of Fire and Ice" series George R.R. Martin is under tremendous pressure to finish his most awaited book "Winds of Winter." Seeing that HBO's "Game of Thrones" is already airing its fifth season right now, fans are worried that the show won't get the material in time for next season, which is around spring of 2016.

In a talk with Entertainment Weekly, Martin expressed optimism that he wants to finish the book as quickly as he can. ""I wish it was out now. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I'm turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done."

The New Mexico author admits that finishing the book before the next season starts is his goal right now, which many fans are extremely hopeful for. But as far as release date goes, nothing is definite.

Meanwhile, Martin continues to tease what's ahead for "Winds of Winter." First, he told EW, "This is going to drive your readers crazy, but I love it" referring to a big twist that he wants to write for one of the major characters. Also, he posted an excerpt from the book on his website. The passage is titled "Alayne," which is a story from the eyes of Sansa Stark.

Now, Martin is very determined to complete the book, but also confessed why he slowed down when writing "Winds of Winter" and what caused the delay.

"I was red hot on the book and I put it aside for six months. I was so into it. I was pushing so hard that I was writing very well. I should have just gone on from there... but I didn't because I had to switch gears into the editing phase and then the book tour. The iron does cool off," Martin said.

Despite the lack of certainty for a release date, Martin's statements should serve as good and hopeful news to every book and "GOT" fan.
