Just when "Game of Thrones" fans were hoping that their dreams would come true this Christmas, author George R.R. Martin apologized for inadvertently misleading his Twitter followers. Martin's Christmas countdown has no connection to "Winds of Winter" at all, which is something many fans assumed. 

"Winds of Winter" is the sixth installment of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series. However, Martin hasn't confirmed any release date for the book and even admitted that it will definitely be delayed. But his recent Twitter antics gave his fans and followers hope that news will be coming this Christmas. Unfortunately, their assumptions were wrong. 

On Martin's Twitter account, he started making a countdown to Christmas. It started with "On the first day...House Tully came bearing gifts...#12DaysofWesteros." The next countdown tweet was "On the second day...House Greyjoy ran out of power...#12DaysofWesteros #books #GameOfThrones." 

Fans hoped that by the 12th day of Christmas, it will be the release date of "Winds of Winter" or some other great news. But Martin cleared any assumption by tweeting, "#12DaysofWesteros is NOT a countdown to the release of WoW, we're sorry for those of you who were misled, just spreading Christmas Cheer :)," much to the dismay of his fans and followers. 

This means that there is still no new update about the book and everyone just has to wait a little longer for it. In the past, Martin admitted that he's not good with deadlines and he is really unsure when he will finish "Winds of Winter." 

At the Sante Fe Film Festival, he was asked if the delay of the book was caused by writer's block. He denied it and explained the real reason why. 

"Writer's block isn't to blame here, it's distraction. In recent years, all of the work I've been doing creates problems because it creates distraction," he explained. "Because the books and the show are so popular I have interviews to do constantly. I have travel plans constantly." 

He added, "I don't write when I travel. I don't write in hotel rooms. I don't write on airplanes. I really have to be in my own house undisturbed to write. Through most of my life nobody did bother me, but now everyone bothers me every day." 

He said that he already has assistants and minions to keep away distractions. So, this should mean that he can focus better on writing now as fans are getting restless waiting. 

"Game of Thrones," the TV adaptation of "A Song of Ice and Fire,  will air on HBO on 2015 and it is based on "Dance of Dragons," the fifth book in the series. Many are worried that the TV show is catching up with the novels and that there won't be any material left for the following season.
