'Wonder Woman 2' release date news update: Gal Gadot adds new project as sequel starts filming next summer
Gal Gadot will not be wearing her Amazonian armor until next summer if the latest report is anything to go by.
According to Omega Underground, filming for "Wonder Woman 2" will begin in June 2018, and once again, it will be a period piece where Princess Diana will face off against the Soviet Union during the 1980s. No further details were revealed, but this affirms previous rumors that the second installment will take place during the Cold War.
The production locations are still under wraps as well, but as far as casting goes, Comic Book claims that Jenkins is already eyeing Chris Pine to return for the sequel. The actor played American spy and Diana's love interest, Steve Trevor.
It is unclear how they will pull off his return since Pine's character died in the first film. The publication predicts he may appear through flashbacks or play an entirely different character who is a descendant of the late pilot.
Meanwhile, as "Wonder Woman 2" is still very much coming down the pipeline, Gadot may be squeezing in another movie before her next DC project. The Israeli actress is reportedly in negotiations to star in yet another World War II film titled "Ruin."
Directed by "Assassin's Creed" helmer Justin Kurtzel, the film follows an ex-Nazi captain who hunts down his former SS squadmates for revenge in the days after the end of World War II. Her role in the film has yet to be revealed, but she may star alongside Christian Bale who is being considered for the lead role.
If she boards the project, she could start filming as early as January before she shoots "Wonder Woman 2." The second installment of the DC film is set for release on Dec.13, 2019.
Prior to both films, Gadot will appear as Wonder Woman in "Justice League" which arrives on Nov. 17.
