'Wonder Woman 2' release date news: Diana's story back on track
DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. finally got their footing in the cinematic universe of comic books when "Wonder Woman" came out and proved to be a critical and financial success. It was certain that there would be a sequel for the block buster film, but apparently, there has been some confusion regarding Gal Gadot, who plays the titular role, in her search for more material regarding the back story of her character, Diana.
In a report by Games Radar, Diana was portrayed to be some kind of enigmatic entity walking amongst humans. The creative team of "Wonder Woman" has since addressed this issue with the first film, since the core purpose of the character was to further improve and enhance the lives of humans as much as possible. This is the reason that Diana left the fictional island of Themyscira in order to protect and serve the human race.
Gal Gadot stated that "The reason why she left the island was because she wanted to make [humanity's] lives better and safer. They are her calling." Fortunately, director Patty Jenkins had already addressed some of these issues in the first movie, effectively showcasing Diana's unwavering hope, faith, and fighting spirit for the sake of humanity.
The sequel is set to start production in the summer of 2018, according to Movie Pilot. Patty Jenkins is returning to direct the sequel as well, which is something that fans are pleased with given the success of the first movie. Even if Steve Trevor and Antiope, played by Chris Pine and Robin Wright respectively, had passed away in the first film, they are still slated to return in the sequel. Most likely, they will come in the form of flashbacks to further the plot.
Furthermore, comic book writer Geoff Johns will be writing the script for "Wonder Woman 2." According to Movie Web, Johns is one of the main people that has helped the DC Extended Universe get on the right track. If the rumors are true, the sequel will take place after the first movie, before "Batman vs. Superman."
"Wonder Woman 2" is scheduled to be released on Dec. 13 of 2019.
