'Wonder Woman' movie plot: film to partly take place during World War I

Gal Gadot as Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman Warner Bros. Pictures

Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot, will make her first appearance in the DC Extended Univererse in next year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," then will have her solo film out in 2017. According to a new report from Heroic Hollywood, the first part of her solo film will take place during World War I, not the widely believed World War II setting.

The report points out that there are rumors of Wonder Woman being centuries old, which would explain why she will still look as young in 2017 as she did during the First World War. This will fit in with Wonder Woman's lore in the comic books and is also similar to Wonder Woman's lore in the 1970's television series that starred Lynda Carter.

The report also states that the presentation shown during this year's San Diego Comic-Con revealed images of soldiers that seem to be from World War II. WWII may have been an early concept and the filmmakers could have shifted the time era at a later point during pre-production.

According to a report from Cinema Blend, it is possible that Wonder Woman may encounter Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) during World War I as a pilot who crash lands in the island of Themyscira, which will be the turning point where Wonder Woman goes out to the rest of the world. In the present day she may work alongside Trevor's descendant who could also be played by Chris Pine.

The second half of the film will reportedly take place in the modern time but it isn't clarified if the modern day events will take place before or after "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" or if it will tie in more closely to the two-part "Justice League" films.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opens on March 25, 2016 with the solo "Wonder Woman" film opening on June 23, 2017.
