Actor Woody Harrelson revealed in a recent interview that he was friends with Vice President Mike Pence back when they both attended Hanover College in Indiana.

During his appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Tuesday, Harrelson said that he struck up a friendship with Pence while he was studying theology at the Presbyterian-affiliated college.

The 56-year-old actor revealed that he was at Hanover on a Presbyterian scholarship, and was considering a career as a minister. He recounted that Pence was involved in church activities at the time. He stressed that he and Pence were both "very religious" when they were attending the school.

When host Jimmy Kimmel asked him about his memories of his time with Pence, the actor replied: "I actually quite liked him. I thought he was a pretty good guy. He's, you know, very religious. Very committed," according to the Daily Mail.

Harrelson, however, stated that he is not sure if he would be friends with the vice president today, because he is no longer religious.

"So, you know, seeing as how I'm not quite in that ballpark now, I don't know how we'd get along, cause I think he's still quite religious. Just a whole different brand of religious, that kind of fervor that you really don't want," Harrelson said.

The actor recounted that he eventually abandoned his plan to become a minister shortly after studying theology because he believed that the Bible was "manmade."

"I started to say, 'I can put this whole thing on hold for a while... Let's just put this whole idea on hold so that I can have a 20s and 30s of extreme hedonism,'" the actor told Kimmel, as reported by Daily Mail.

Harelson said that he believes in the existence of God, but noted that he came up with his beliefs by reading the "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramhansa Yogananda.

Fox News reported that Pence graduated from Hanover in 1981, with Harrelson completing his course two year later. Both men are listed in the Notable Alumni page of the Presbyterian-affiliated college.

Harrelson is known for his support for recreational marijuana use. He recently revealed on the Ellen Degeneres Show that he had resumed smoking pot after abstaining for several years.

Pence, on the other hand, has opposed proposals to reduce penalties for possession of marijuana.
