World Bible Translation Centre Appoints New President

On 12th May, a new president has been named for the World Bible Translation Centre (WBTC). Gary L. Bishop, who has been serving for the past year in the position of Vice-President for Development, will become the new president.

Gary L. Bishop served as President and CEO of Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) headquartered in Redlands, CA for six years prior to joining WBTC in 2004. During his time at MAF, he led the ministry to significantly increase its global outreach.

Over the past 30 years, Bishop has been very active in churches and ministries. Together with his wife, they are heavily involved in church life and has spearheaded in Christian education. Bishop contributed his professional skills in MAF based on his prestigious academic background.

Bishop earned a bachelor’s degree in aviation management and an M.B.A. from Dallas Baptist University, as well as completing the Stanford Graduate School of Business’ Executive Development program in financial management and the Cambridge Training Centre of MIT Executive Program in processor and software technology.

"We are delighted that Gary has agreed to take on the role of President of WBTC," said Dale Randolph, CEO of WBTC. "With his years of experience in working for corporations and as the President of a non-profit ministry, it was only natural for him to move into the role of President. This is a position that he is well suited for, and the Board of Directors and I feel he is the right person for the job."

Bishop has got a lot of experience in the secular scale. He served as Executive Director for Pittsburgh International Airport and as an Executive for AT&T Corporation before joining non-profit organisations.

The WBTC exists to translate and distribute faithful, easy-to-understand translations of the Scriptures in the world’s major languages to lead people to Jesus and help believers grow in faith. The Translation Centre has completed 31 New Testaments and 15 Bibles in the last 31 years. More than 3.2 million of the Centre’s Bibles, New Testaments and Scripture portions were distributed during 2004.
