'World of Warcraft: Legion' DLC releases Aug. 30; Illidan rumored to change allegiances

"World of Warcraft" is about to get even bigger as the sixth official expansion, "Legion," is set to launch this coming Aug. 30. The game will be bringing back the character Illidan Stormrage, one of the main villains in the 2007 expansion "The Burning Crusade," but according to Polygon, it is possible he will be on the player's side this time.

According to the report, Illidan may have somehow survived his death at the end of the "Burning Crusade" expansion and will be returning as a type of anti-hero who has good intentions but goes about achieving his goals in questionable and destructive methods.

It is further explained that Blizzard has been giving hints that players will be working alongside Illidan instead of fighting him and his anti-hero nature may indicate that he will be an ally in the beginning but then become a powerful force that the player must stop by the end of the story.

Polygon further reiterates that the tie-in novel, "Illidan: World of Warcraft," details the events following Illidan's story in "Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne." In the novel Illidan later encounters a naaru who later gives him a vision where he is depicted with a halo. The naaru then states that no matter what Illidan has become, he will become a "champion of Light."

the report also reiterates that Blizzard's Chris Metzen once stated back in 2010 that they were supporters of a good redemption story and this may be an indication that they are referring to Illidan's upcoming story in "Legion."

It is also pointed out that a new class, referred to as the Demon Hunter, will officially launch with the expansion. This class has been inspired by Illidan's anti-hero capabilities.

The "World of Warcraft: Legion" DLC will officially launch this coming Aug. 30. The tie-in novel is already available in major bookstores and can also be purchased digitally.
