'World of Warcraft' token system is live

Last month, big game name Blizzard, the company behind the successful massive multiplayer online game "World of Warcraft," announced that they will be introducing a new way for their players to pay the game's monthly subscription fees. Now, the new system has gone live. 

The new "World of Warcraft" token system mirrors that of the PLEX system of another online multiplayer game, "Eve Online." In this system, players can trade their in-game gold at the auction house for game time. 

To discourage gold farming, there is a limit to how many times a player can purchase tokens. At the start, the limit is set at 10 purchases within a period of 30 days, although Blizzard says that this limit might be adjusted over time, depending on player feedback. 

The tokens are now live in North and Latin America for $20, and Australia and New Zealand for $25 AUD. No details yet on when the tokens will be made available for the European servers, but Blizzard promises that the token system will expand and will be launched globally pending updates. 

It can be purchased from the in-game shop, and will have a starting price of 30,000 gold in the Auction House. However, after the initial price, the gold cost will vary based on how many will be buying and how much will be bought, and might either go up or down. Also, Blizzard notes that since this is just the initial phase, there might be a delay in the system.

In a post, the company said, "While tokens will be available immediately from the Shop, please note that there may be a delay before Tokens put up for sale on the Auction House become available for purchase with gold."
