World Vision is working to address a food crisis that has left a total of 2.5 million people in several districts in Kenya in desperate need of assistance.

|PIC1|Out of the districts affected, the worst are Mandera, Wajir, and Marsabit, while Garissa, Isiolo, Moyale, Kajiado, and Kilifi are also high risk.

In response to the food needs in the area, WV is currently distributing 2,500 metric tons of food per month in Turkana, Taita Taveta and Kilifi districts.

WV is partnered with The African Medical Research Foundation (AMREF) in Makueni district and is currently reaching 1,139,159 people in 17 districts.

In addition to food distribution, WV Kenya has recovery projects focusing on water and sanitation in Turkana and Makueni, as well as food security projects in Kilifi and Makueni.

According to WV, the main areas requiring intervention in Kenya currently are water needs for human and livestock consumption and nutritional requirements for vulnerable populations.

World Vision is the lead aid agency in these four districts and is currently in the third of a six-month Emergency Operation (EMOP) phase, which started in September 2005.
