Apple will reportedly unveil a new software platform aside from iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 at the Wordlwide Developers' Conference, according to the new report.

BGR cited Financial Times stating that Apple will introduce "a new software platform" that will allow iPhone users to control the lights, appliances and security systems in their homes, making it a smart home. The report added that this move of Apple is huge as it will give the company an edge over its rivals like Google and Samsung.

The report continued that Apple will also include common automation features that are currently found in other similar software that are available in the market. However, it is unspecified whether Apple's iBeacon technology will be used in this new platform. The Cupertino-based company is reportedly working with several unspecified device makers, which will offer appliances and accessories for the company's new smart home platform.

Software for smart home is still an unexplored area in operating system. This could pave the way in new product in the market that will pioneer other companies to do the same.

Meanwhile, Apple will announce the new iOS 8, which will definitely pack new features and capabilities such as the split-screen multitasking feature in mobile devices, which will enable users to use two applications at the same time.

Moreover, the company will also unveil the Mac OS X 10.10. According to iOSDoc.com, the desktop operating system will be given a facelift and the icons will be redesigned to have flatter, transparent and frosted effects. Mac OS X 10.10 will retain some of its features such as Finder and Mission Control.

Lastly, no device is confirmed to be announced alongside the different Apple software. It was speculated before that new MacBooks will be launched at the event. However, Apple silently slipped the laptops in the market. This could be due to lack of stellar upgrades.
