'WWE 2K16' release date: New trailers offer sneak peek at gameplay, full character ring entrance

2K Games

More gameplay details and brand-new trailers for the upcoming "WWE 2K16" sim game have been released prior to the game's rollout in October.

IGN had a chat with the game developers from Visual Concepts and the publishers from 2K Games, where they discussed the latest details about the title's gameplay. One of the things that was tackled during the gameplay reveal is the inclusion of 120 unique playable characters in the upcoming professional wrestling game under the best-selling WWE game franchise.

According to the report, while "unique" mostly means different wrestlers, this will not be the case for all the names in the roster. A single wrestler who has two or more completely diverse gimmicks may be considered as separate unique characters.

The latest set of details also revealed that chain grappling will be back in the 17th installment in the WWE 2K game franchise, but it will now have "working" grapples that can draw an opponent's stamina while the player's character is resting.

Reversals will also have two huge improvements in the soon-to-be released game, including the regeneration of reversals after the limited stock has been consumed as well as the ability to pass on the initial chance to reverse a move at the beginning of the game.

Other notable inclusions in the gameplay of the upcoming "WWE 2K16" title are:

  • The return of MyCareer, but it will offer a lot of added features such as the capacity to get admission to the WWE Hall of Fame.
  • The return of Create a Diva, Create a Show, Create an Arena, and Create a Championship
  • The ability to book WWE Universe: Wrestlers to multiple shows
  • The inclusion of major changes in the game's Online mode
  • Adding a three-man commentary team with John "Bradshaw" Layfield joining Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler.
  • The addition of ladder, handicap, and tornado tag match types returned.
  • There will be no loading screens that will be seen between entrances, and players can start assaulting their opponents while they are still doing their entrance toward the ring.
  • There will be an improved ref and manager AI.

The first two trailers include the full ring entrance of Finn Balor and Seth Rollins, while the other one is the first glimpse of the gameplay of the upcoming wrestling video game.

"WWE 2K16" will be released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 beginning Oct. 27 in North America, while players in Europe can start purchasing the game on Oct. 30.
