'WWE 2K16' update: 120 playable character roster to be included

"WWE 2K16" is set to feature more than 120 playable characters when it is finally released.

The more than 120-character roster will be a new record for the video game franchise, making it the largest entry ever featured, according to Gamespot.

News of the supersized "WWE 2K16" roster originally came from Visual Concepts, the game's developer.

Visual Concepts has already said the more than 120-character figure did not account for multiple models of a specific wrestler, meaning the number represented completely unique characters within the game.

In comparison, last year's "WWE 2K15" featured a roster of only 67 playable characters.

As of now, the current roster composition is still unknown. Both the WWE and Visual Concepts have yet to announce exactly who will make up the more than 120-character roster of the game and what percentage of it will include wrestlers no longer involved with the company.

Destructoid suggests that the game's developers could expand the roster by tapping further into NXT, the WWE's current developmental system for wrestlers. It is also widely believed that the roster would feature a good amount of long retired wrestlers who have been previously associated with the company.

As of now, only six members of the "WWE 2K16" roster have been offiically announced, according to the WWE.

2K Sports, the game's publisher, announced the first six members of the roster back at E3. They include Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Bad News Barrett and Dean Ambrose from the WWE's main roster. Paige, another wrestler from the main roster, is thus far the only female character announced for the game. The last of the six is Finn Balor, a wrestler currently part of the NXT roster.

More characters are expected to be revealed in the weeks before "WWE 2K16" is officially released for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Playstation 4 and Xbox One on October 27.
