WWE Hell in a Cell results, winners and losers: Alberto Del Rio was lone surprise

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hell in a Cell is over and done with and as expected, there wasn't too much surprises for the WWE pay-per-view (PPV).

There were no title changes except for the United States title (as expected) while the other non-title bouts seemingly offered some fair showings. Here is a summary of the WWE Hell in a Cell results.

  • Neville, Dolph Ziggler, and Cesaro defeated Sheamus, King Barrett, and Rusev
  • Alberto Del Rio defeated John Cena to become the new U.S. champion
  • Roman Reigns defeated Bray Wyatt
  • The New Day defeated the Dudley Boyz
  • Charlotte defeated Nikki Bella via submission to retain her title
  • Seth Rollins defeated Kane to retain his WWE heavyweight title
  • Brock Lesnar defeated the Undertaker in the main card

The return of Alberto Del Rio was, of course, the big surprise of the night, only the match could have been carried out better. Del Rio's return addresses an earlier rumor stating that WWE was reportedly considering him for a return in an effort to boost the Hispanic niche.

From the looks of it, Del Rio got a big deal for this one, seeing how successful he has been in the AAA and Lucha Underground. Del Rio returns since leaving the WWE in 2014, after getting into an altercation with a WWE employee due to the latter's racist rant.

His return in the PPV was certainly unexpected, although the finish (or is it send off?) wasn't exactly spectacular or something WWE fans will be talking about.

Other matches weren't even close to what transpired between the Undertaker and Brock Lesnar, brutal and bloody as anticipated. In the end, Lesnar borrowed a move from the Undertaker's dirty move handbook and followed it up with an F5 to seal the win.

Just when the Undertaker was getting the cheers and respect he deserved, the Wyatt Family comes out to add a new twist. The quartet (Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, and Braun Strowman) abducted the Dead Man and carried him out of the ring.

So what happens next? Another Bray Wyatt vs. Undertaker showdown? At least it diverts the attention of the Wyatt family, meaning we have seen the end of that long-running feud they have with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose.
