WWE return rumors 2016: Bill Goldberg to give fans what they're looking for at WWE SummerSlam 2016?

Goldberg was always one of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstars whose comeback fans will always hope for. The former World Heavyweight Champion has not set foot on the squared circle in over a decade, but this might change soon.

The superstar will allegedly travel to Brooklyn this weekend for WWE SummerSlam 2016, but not for some brawling. He is simply expected to do promotion for "WWE 2K17" and nothing more.

As fans know, Goldberg is one of the superstars featured in the 2K Sports game. In fact, he comes in two versions – his WWE form and World Championship Wrestling (WCW) form.

However, some would like to think he is set to return to the ring to take on Brock Lesnar, who challenged him in a "WWE 2K17" clip, which WWE removed but Lesnar still has on Twitter.

"Hey Bill, you're next," Lesnar warns. It will be a shock if Goldberg did not address that in some way or form. However, it appears that there's more to the story.

According to Forbes, WWE is setting up a face-off between Lesnar and Goldberg with the latter expected to show himself at SummerSlam in some capacity to allow him to retort Lesnar's taunt.

Many are quick to conclude a feud is being planned and that it will culminate to Wrestlemania 33. However, it is believed that Goldberg will be in Brooklyn not for a rematch but promotion only.

Goldberg's final WWE bout was against Lesnar at the Wrestlemania XX wherein he emerged the winner. Stone Cold Steve Austin even served as referee.

Ever since, Goldberg has not been in WWE, but What Culture points out that he always wanted a rematch with The Beast. Whether or not this much-awaited showdown will take off at SummerSlam remains to be seen.

The Inquisitr points out that instead of a match, Goldberg will be inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame instead much like the late Ultimate Warrior, who promoted "WWE 2K" and ended up inducted a year later.

WWE SummerSlam 2016 will take place on Sunday, Aug. 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
