WWE Royal Rumble rumors: Roman Reigns will need to win battle royal to keep heavyweight title

Roman Reigns was able to weather the storm at WWE Raw, finding a way to keep the title over Sheamus despite the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) chairman Vince McMahon being the special guest referee.

But his win was a temporary reprieve because the Big Dog will have to think fast if he wants to remain WWE champion.

McMahon announced that Reigns will not have a one-on-one match at the upcoming Royal Rumble to defend his title and instead have to find a way to keep it against 29 other competitors. This means that if Reigns is tossed over the top rope, so goes the WWE title.

Now, the immediate thing that comes into the mind of many is that Reigns will likely triumph again despite the severe odds. It will mark the first time since 1992 that the WWE title will be on the line.

Back then, Ric Flair was able to weather 29 other stars by defeating Sid Justice. He did, however, get some help from Hulk Hogan at that time.

But the thing is should that be the case, would it be wise to see Reigns retain the title and win the Royal Rumble again?

It was in the same pay-per-view (PPV) when trouble started for the WWE and Reigns which led to a sudden change of direction that saw Seth Rollins become champion. After working on the Reigns' hype, is the WWE walking on thin ice by opting to follow this route?

Of course, there could be a twist here. Vince McMahon, Triple H, or even John Cena could end up winning the Rumble and then set another storyline for Reigns.

If that is the case, it could be the setup for Wrestlemania 32 unless a title change takes place at WWE Fastlane, the next WWE PPV.

Brock Lesnar is another participant who could win the rumble but that could mean a rematch between the two stars at Wrestlemania 32. Would that sit well with the fans?
