John Cena has finally shed light on why he really took time off from the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and the reason was, apparently, tied with a new TV show called "American Grit."

The Cenation leader joined hands with FOX Sports and Leftfield Pictures for the 10-episode reality TV series which will feature 16 civilians grouped into four who will undergo challenges and put their strength, stamina, and teamwork to the test as they vie for the $1 million purse up for grabs.

Joining Cena in the show is an elite group of people from exclusive military units who will guide and push the civilians to their limits and overcome the obstacles that lie ahead.

Hence, all hope of Cena making a WWE return will have to wait. His earliest time to return will most likely by January when filming nears its wrap-up.

Should that be the case, there is a chance that Cena could be back in time for the WWE Royal Rumble. That means that if ever Cena would be appearing this December, it would technically just be for appearance and nothing more.

The WWE has found itself in a bind, struggling to help improve in the ratings game. Things went from bad to worse when Seth Rollins fell to injury, compounding the woes of the company with no clear superstar to help pull the WWE's fortunes.

This Sunday, the WWE will hold its next pay-per-view, the WWE Survivor Series, spearheaded by The Undertaker who celebrates his 25th year in the business. Equally interesting is the WWE world heavyweight competition and many are expecting a Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose finale.

Reigns is once again being groomed to be the next face of the WWE and is a looming favorite to win over his brother Ambrose. But there are some who want to see the Lunatic Fringe win instead.

Either way, the fate of the WWE could very well lie on the two former Shield members, with Cena unlikely to make an early and surprise return due to his commitments.
