Having settled the legal battle over rights to the "Broken" Matt Hardy character, the widely acclaimed gimmick is finally set to return to the WWE ring.

The Hardy Boyz, Jeff and Matt Hardy made a surprising return to the WWE earlier in April at WrestleMania 33 to win the Raw Tag Team Championship. However, instead of continuing the "Broken" gimmick which they made popular in Impact Wrestling, the Hardy Boyz reverted back to their old WWE disposition because of legal implications.

Last week on "Monday Night Raw," Matt showed the first sign of his transformation after his loss to Bray Wyatt in a singles match. He was seen sulking in the corner of the ring breaking out his famous "Delete" catchphrase in between senseless screams.

In 2016, Matt Hardy revived his career in Impact Wrestling as "Broken Matt," a mysterious man who claims to be driven by "the seven deities" and speaks an entirely different language. The seven deities are said to have awoken the mortal version of Matt after thousands of years on Earth. Together with his "Brother Nero" Jeff Hardy, the duo claimed to be "the greatest tag team in time and space."

In a special event episode of Impact Wrestling called "Total Nonstop Deletion," Broken Matt showcased his "broken brilliance" by defeating Brother Nero in "The Final Deletion." The influence of their match was so evident that the WWE tried to stage their own version when they pitted The New Day stable composed of Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods against the Wyatt family in a field weeks later.

According to USA Today Sports, if the WWE allows Matt at least half the level of creative freedom he had in Impact Wrestling, the return of Broken Matt could be one of the biggest storylines for WWE in 2018. Are you excited to see Broken Matt return to the WWE?
