WWE rumors: Summerslam build-up to see Dolph Ziggler and Alberto Del Rio feud in The Showoff?

Dolph Ziggler shocked everyone when he won the right for a one-on-one match against Dean Ambrose for the WWE Championship at WWE SummerSlam 2016.

The Showoff bested all five of his opponents – John Cena, AJ Styles, Bray Wyatt, Apollo Crews and Baron Corbin – at the Six Pack Challenge, earning the No. 1 contendership.

The shock mostly comes from the fact that WWE showed no signs of Ziggler nabbing the win, especially looking at his recent history with his feuds and battles. His midcard endeavors are certainly not the most impressive.

Bleacher Report points out that Ziggler suffered a lot of losses in the recent past. Just this year, he recorded no victories in all his four major fighters. Some of his unforgettable defeats include Kevin Owens at Fastlane and Corbin at Money in the Bank.

WWE is expected to make good use of the four weeks left before WWE SummerSlam 2016 to develop Ziggler and show why Ambrose should be threatened by him.

Admittedly though, there are already fans who think The Showoff was deserving of the opportunity, as he is seen as a promising main-eventer who is nothing but misused by WWE.

However, that does not change the fact that WWE will do a lot of rebuilding to Ziggler as an intimidating contender for the championship based on his performance prior to this shot at the title.

Bleacher Report believes that giving him a winning streak in the next SmackDown shows will do the trick. The site says that having him decimate the likes of Alberto Del Rio, Bray Wyatt and other biggies to show that his win was out of talent and not a stroke of luck.

For What Culture, it will be a shock to see Ziggler win the title from Ambrose at WWE SummerSlam 2016. However, he is expected to snag the title soon, but not before a proper build-up.

It is expected that this opportunity for the championship will be the first step for Ziggler to be a big star. After all, fans even commentator Jim Ross always thought him to be one despite his unimpressive record.

"Unlike many, I had no issue with Dolph Ziggler earning a shot at Dean Ambrose's WWE Title at Summer Slam. Was Ziggler primed and ready for the #1 contender role? Obviously, not but fans have been clamoring for Dolph to be put in the game and there is no doubt that Ziggler and Ambrose will have a superb main event level bout in Brooklyn," Ross stated on his blog.

"While I respect the opinion of others, unlike many keyboard warriors, I submit Ziggler is a favorite of many fans who can deliver a great bout and who can have his TV persona enhanced in the next couple of weeks," he added.
