'X-Men: Apocalypse' plot news: Film to also feature the Blob
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will primarily focus on Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) and his Four Horsemen. However, a recent set visit from Instagram user Benjamin Malartre Bureau reveals that another classic villain will be in the film: Fred Dukes aka The Blob.
Bureau posted a photo on Instagram of a souvenir he got from the set and in his caption, he mentioned that the Blob would also be in the film. In a separate comment, he also confirmed that the studios are not going to use CGI or a fat suit for the character and instead has brought on board a local 540-pound French-Canadian actor to portray the Blob.
It was not confirmed if the Blob would have a substantial role in the film, perhaps as a member of Magneto's (Michael Fassbender) Brotherhood of Mutants or if he would only pop up as a cameo similar to Toad (Evan Jonigkeit) and Havok (Lucas Till) in "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
The giant character was previously portrayed by Kevin Durand in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" where he was a member of William Stryker's (Danny Huston) special strike force team. He only gained weight after the team disbanded and later fought Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in a boxing match.
Given that history was re-written following the events of "Days of Future Past," it is likely that the Blob may be going through a different phase than he did in "X-Men Origins." However, since William Stryker is set to return in "X-Men: Apocalypse," there is also a probability that he will still be a part of Stryker's military team.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
