In the new season of the "X-Files," the story will revolve around the son of Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson).

The trailer for the upcoming installment of the hit sci-fi franchise showed a mysterious man seemingly telling Mulder that his son, William, is a threat to humanity and therefore needs to be killed. Mulder does not take this statement lightly and tells him, "You want to see blood in the streets, the extermination of seven billion people." The elderly man, however, tells him that he wants to save humanity and insists that Mulder's young boy is somehow in the way of that.

Meanwhile, Scully tells Mulder in another scene at the hospital that he needs to look for their son William. She says, "You have to find him and you have to stop him before he unleashes hell on earth." It therefore seems that Mulder and Scully are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to William. The father thinks that the boy is not a threat while the mom believes otherwise.

It remains to be seen if their son is truly a threat or not to humanity and if the people on the entire planet will be spared no matter what happens.

In related news, showrunner Chris Carter revealed at the New York Comic Con on Sunday that Mulder and Scully might rekindle their love for each other in the upcoming run of the hit Fox show. "They get kissing close," Carter told the audience as they whooped. He, however, walked back and told the crowd that the FBI duo will be professional partners in the first five episodes.

Fans will have to tune in after that to see where Mulder and Scully's relationship will lead to and if they will be able to find their child in time.

"X-Files" season 11 is expected to premiere in January of 2018 on Fox.
