After seeing the much younger Charles Xavier don a headful of hair in "X-Men: First Class" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past," fans may soon see the professor transition into the iconic genius with a bald head. "X-Men: Apocalypse," scheduled to be released on May 27, 2016, will star James McAvoy as Professor X, and the actor just might shed off his locks for the movie.

In an interview with HuffPost Live, McAvoy said, "I'll be older in this one. [And] I think I'm losing my hair finally. And, yeah, that's kind of all I know."

It could be that Prof. X loses his hair because of a formidable foe that the X-Men will be facing in the film.

Earlier this year, director Bryan Singer spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the themes he was considering for "Apocalypse." He said, "It will (also) address historical mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It's something that's always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history and miracles and powers."

In X-Men-lore, Apocalypse is a supervillain who was born 5,000 years in the past with powerful mutant capabilities. His other name, En Sabah Nur, means "The First One," so it can be said that he was the first-ever person on Earth to possess the X-gene – and like Wolverine, he doesn't age. Speculations suggest that Magneto and the professor will have to unite forces to beat the first of their kind.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will likely follow the events from "X-Men: First Class." The latter took place in the 60s, while the former will be a period piece from the 80s. In an interview with Total Film early this year, as quoted by Comic Book Movie, Singer said, "We're going to deal with the notion of ancient mutants - the fact they were born and existed thousands of years ago. But it'll be a contemporary movie - well, it'll take place in the '80s..."

He further explained, "Apocalypse will have more of the mass destruction that X-Men films, to date, have not relied upon. There's definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle."

Together with McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Evan Peters will reprise their mutant roles, and it is expected that some of the original cast will be seen in the movie as well.
