Twentieth Century Fox has just released a brand new trailer for "X-Men: Apocalypse" and it showcases Xavier's (James McAvoy) team of mutants outmatched by the villain Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) and his Four Horsemen, namely Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Angel (Ben Hardy).

The trailer begins with Magneto asking Xavier if the latter has ever woken up in the night due to nightmares, alluding to how Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) is shown in the first trailer after she suffered from a nightmare that hinted at Apocalypse's arrival.

As the trailer continues, more scenes tend to focus on the Four Horsemen than the actual X-Men, revealing how each one functions and how they serve Apocalypse. Dialogues in the trailer reveal that throughout the ages, Apocalypse has always had Four Horsemen, granting powers to the ones he chooses from time to time.

Several scenes in the trailer reveal how Apocalypse became the demi-god he is now, hinting that a ritual in Ancient Egypt was done to transform him into the being he is in the modern day. There are also a few scenes of Apocalypse recruiting Magneto and Storm as his followers, with Magneto asking for the chance to destroy all humans.

Other scenes in the trailer reveal Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) fighting Angel in a caged match and Havok (Lucas Till) returning for what may be an extended cameo appearance as he is shown protecting Xavier in the room that houses Cerebro. 

As pointed out in a report from Cinema Blend, the trailer shows that the X-Men appear severely outmatched. While the film does have Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey and Nightcrawler, they are much younger than in previous films given that this is set in the 1980s, meaning they are less experienced in battle.

Scenes in the trailer also show a lot of devastation, hinting that even if the X-Men win the fight against Apocalypse, the world will still be heavily damaged. This may play as an important storyline in future films, as mutants may be blamed for nearly destroying the world.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" opens in theaters this May 27.
