Xbox Games with Gold news update: New Xbox One and Xbox 360 free games; new titles for Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program

For those with Xbox Live Gold Memberships, it is time for an update for the Microsoft Games With Gold program's October 2016 free games. After all, getting a free game is always a good thing and it seems that the lineup for this month is something gamers can look forward to.

According to the Game Spot, "The Escapists" is now free for Xbox One members while "I Am Alive" is now free to play for those who own the Xbox 360 console. However, for those who want to play "I Am Alive" but have already upgraded to the Xbox One console, they will still be able to get the game through the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility initiative.

Unfortunately, for those who missed it, the games replaced by these new titles were "Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China" and "MX vs. ATV Reflex," which were free until Oct. 15.

However, the "Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings" is going to be available the entire month, which can be grabbed through the use of the members' console.

Meanwhile, according to Game N Guide, it seems that more games are being made available using the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility initiative starting Oct. 16 to 31. Some of the games included in the list are "Battlestations: Midway," "Dragon's Lair," "Eat Lead," "Jurassic Park: The Game," "Puzzle Quest," "Silent Hill: Downpour," and "Tour De France 2011." Those who have physical copies of the games mentioned above will be able to download the games by inserting their old Xbox360 discs into their consoles.

The current selection of these backwards compatible games was narrowed down to several popular titles chosen by gamers. The first in the list, "Silent Hill: Downpour" has garnered over 6,000 votes, making it the undisputed top compatible game in this batch.

Regardless, there will be more updates about the Xbox Games With Gold offers and the Backwards Compatibility program soon, so stay tuned.
