Xbox Live Games with Gold 2016: No triple-A title in May lineup

Xbox Newswire

The new lineup for the free games download in the Xbox One Games with Gold program for this month has been revealed, and there is no recent triple-A title among them.

Microsoft announced that for the month of May, Xbox One players with Xbox Live Gold subscription can download for free "Defense Grid 2" all throughout the month. Meanwhile, "Costume Quest 2" will also be a free download for the Xbox One from May 16 to June 15.

"Defense Grid 2" is a tower defense game from Hidden Path Entertainment and 505 Games. According to Xbox, the tower defense title is not just a regular title, as it offers both cooperative and competitive game modes for players. Meanwhile, "Costume Quest 2" is a role-playing game from Double Fine Productions and Majesco.

For the previous-gen console, players on the Xbox 360 can download "Grid 2" in the first half of the month. The game is the sequel to the BAFTA-winning race title, "Race Driver: GRID." The second free game, "Peggle," a popular puzzle game from Popcap and Electronic Arts, can be downloaded for free May 16-31.

It should also be noted that Xbox One players may have the chance to download and add all four games to their libraries, as the Xbox 360 games are also available for the Xbox One via the backwards compatibility program. In addition, players can still get a bonus game from last month's Xbox Games with Gold list, as one game from the April lineup, "Sunset Overdrive," is still available for download until May 15.

With the list already out, it is noticeable that Microsoft has not included major triple-A titles for this month's lineup. Whether a coincidence or not, the May lineup is a glaring contrast to previous Xbox Live Games with Gold lists. Last month, "Saints Row IV" and "Deas Space" were included, while the March lineup listed "Lords of the Fallen" and "Borderlands."
