Xbox Live Games with Gold free games May 2016: 'Grid 2' and 'Sunset Overdrive' taken off list

Xbox Live Official Website

The listing of free games for Microsoft premium subscribers for Xbox Live Gold has been updated.

At the beginning of the month, Microsoft announced on their website that there was a total of five games available for free. For Xbox 360, subscribers received the games "Grid 2"and "Peggle" while "Costume Quest 2" and "Defense Grid 2" were offered for Xbox One players. "Sunset Overdrive" was included despite it being part of last month's free games.

However, some of the games from this list were removed on May 15 while others became free by May 16. The removed games were "Grid 2" and "Sunset Overdrive". As such, only "Peggle" can be played on the Xbox 360 while Xbox One players can enjoy both "Defense Grid 2" and "Costume Quest 2". The former's availability will only last until the month ends, while the latter will stay as the remnant game once the June games come out.

Microsoft has a perks system for the Xbox console, and general membership for the Xbox Live network only requires the player to have an Xbox console. This allows players to be able to interact with others online, since the Xbox Live is the system that handles both the multiplayer and online features of the console's various games as well as the online aspect of the consoles themselves.

By default, users are granted a Silver Label subscription to the Xbox Live, which gives the most basic features and services. However, upgrading to a Gold subscription means more features, including the free game offers every month. This is to ensure that new Xbox users as well as current subscribers will maintain their subscription.

This perk program can be compared to the PlayStation Plus program offered by Sony. Usually, there are four games each month -- two for Xbox 360 and two for Xbox One -- and one game that's available to both.
