Xbox Live Games with Gold update: Microsoft reveals April 2016 lineup

Xbox Newswire

The guessing game for next month's free games has stopped as Microsoft has released the April 2016 lineup for the company's Xbox Live Games with Gold program.

According to the list, Xbox One players can pick up "The Wolf Among Us" starting April 1, and the game is available all month long in April. Meanwhile, "Sunset Overdrive" will be a mid-month addition, available for Xbox One players for free from April 16 to May 15.

Xbox 360 owners also get a chance to download two free games for next month. The game list for April for the previous-gen console is divided into two: "Dead Space" is available in the early half of the month, from April 1 to 15. Meanwhile, the role-playing, city exploring "Saints Row IV" will be up for grabs from April 16 to 30.

It should also be noted that although there are only two games listed for Xbox One players, current-gen console owners can download the entire April lineup since the two Xbox 360 games can also be played on the Xbox One via the backwards compatibility feature of the gaming system.

Meanwhile, if Xbox One players choose to download the free games early in April, they may get a chance to get an additional game for free. The current March lineup for Xbox Live Games with Gold includes "Lords of the Fallen," which is available as a free download until April 15.

Additionally, hardcore fans who have pre-ordered a digital copy of "Dark Souls III" can also get the original "Dark Souls" as a playable freebie for their Xbox One. Part of the pre-order bundle is a backwards-compatible version of the original franchise installment.

It is unclear, however, if "Dark Souls" will be included on upcoming Games with Gold free games list, or if it becomes a part of the backwards compatibility feature of the Xbox One.

"Dark Souls III" rolled out in Japan on March 24 and will be available via a worldwide release on April 12.
