Microsoft improved its schedule of releasing titles under the Xbox One backwards compatibility program. Previously, the list was updated monthly, with two or more games added in a span of a month. Now, the titles are being added as Xbox One-playable games as soon as they are available.

The latest to join the backwards compatibility game list is the original "Geometry Wars" game.

Released in 2005, "Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved" was a launching title for the Xbox Live Arcade feature of the Xbox 360. According to EuroGamer, the original game was supposed to be only added as a bonus mini-game for "Project Gotham Racing 2" by developer Bizarre Creations. However, the studio made the title a stand-alone game, and "Geometry Wars" became such a hit that it spawned sequels.

In 2007, a spin-off installment was released for the Nintendo Wii and DS called "Geometry Wars: Galaxies." A proper sequel, "Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2" rolled out a year later. Although original developer Bizarre Creations closed shop in 2011, a third installment, "Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions," was released by studio Lucid Games.

Meanwhile, as February comes to an end, fans of classic titles are still waiting for a triple-A title to make its way to the backwards compatibility games list. According to the latest speculations, "Call of Duty: Black Ops" is set to appear as an Xbox One-playable title before February ends. Reportedly, this is Microsoft's answer to the game being on the top of backwards-compatible games wish lists. Previously, "Black Ops" DLC was sighted briefly on the Xbox One marketplace, further fueling rumors that the original "Black Ops" is coming to the program.
