The first batch of Xbox 360 games that will be playable on Xbox One has now been officially announced, and it's quite a substantial list.

Among the many notable titles included in the first batch of backward compatible games are "Assassin's Creed 2," "Borderlands," "Fallout 3," four "Gears of War" titles, "Just Cause 2," and "Mass Effect."

As many have predicted, many of the games included in the initial wave of backward compatible titles come directly from Microsoft's extensive library. To be fair, the selection is not limited to that as some third party games that come from publishers such as Electronic Arts and Bethesda Softworks have also been included in the list.

In total, there will be 104 Xbox 360 games that will be playable on Xbox One starting Nov. 12 when the backward compatible feature becomes available, according to Pocket-lint.

As some fans will notice, there are some highly requested games that were not included in the first batch, with examples of those being "Red Dead Redemption" and "Bioshock" titles. 

The good news is that although those titles are likely not going to be available when the backward compatibility feature of Xbox One is formally launched, there is still a chance that certain titles will be released later on.

For example, the "Bioshock" games have already been confirmed for a later arrival, but "Red Dead Redemption" remains an uncertainty for now, according to Gamespot.

More backward compatible games will be announced starting in December, and Microsoft is then expected to follow a pattern when it comes to their later announcements soon after that.

In addition to the first batch, Microsoft has also announced that Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles can now also be played on Xbox One. This feature will be applicable to Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles starting this month.

Along with backward compatibility, the Nov. 12 update for Xbox One will also introduce a new dashboard for the console.
