While Microsoft has already unveiled its upgraded versions of the Xbox One, no release dates yet have been set. Speculations say that the Project Scorpio system will appear later next year.

Although Microsoft has already revealed that the Xbox One Scorpio will be released next year, it remains unclear when can fans expect the new system. Speculations suggest that the new Scorpio may come out toward the end of 2017, since Microsoft still has to make sure that the Xbox One S, a newly announced slimmer version of the Xbox One, will enjoy a following. The Xbox One S is rumored to be released to the market later this year.

Speaking with GameReactor, Xbox Games Marketing general manager Aaron Greenberg said that although Project Scorpio is deemed the successor to the Xbox One, the new slim Xbox One is also considered to be a focus for Microsoft. Greenberg mentioned that some of the players are still on the Xbox 360, so instead of waiting for Scorpio, they may want to get the Xbox One S instead.

"We really wanted to give them a great opportunity if they've been waiting, there has never been a better time to upgrade," he said.

Between the Xbox One S and the Scorpio, the latter is really the successor to the Xbox One (some even refer to the new system as the Xbox Two). Greenberg agrees and added, "We know that people also want more performance, more power, and we can deliver that. We wanted to be thoughtful about being able to do that, being able deliver true 4K gaming. Being able to do that does require six teraflops of power; we're building that into Project Scorpio, and in addition to that it also enables us to do things like high fidelity VR as well."

However, TechTimes says that while Microsoft has added some updates on the Xbox One Slim, Project Scorpio really has the best specs in the current console rankings and positions itself above the upcoming PlayStation 4 Neo. This means that in terms of performance, the Scorpio will be worth the wait, even if it is released toward the end of 2017.
