The home console market is heating up, as Microsoft reveals the engineering process of the Xbox One X, claiming the title of "the most powerful console yet." Microsoft also discusses the new cooling system for the hardware of its upcoming console.

Previously known as Project Scorpio, Xbox One X's new compact and innovative design has been unveiled by Microsoft ahead of its release date in November. The said device reportedly took three years of engineering. Microsoft is confident that the Xbox One X will be 40 percent more powerful than any other console in the market right now in terms of graphics processing, all the while being smaller than the Xbox One S.

For those who have not been able to keep track of the hardware developments of Xbox One X, the upcoming home console will feature Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) hardware, a system-on-chip (SOC) that contains a sex-teraflop graphics processing unit (GPU), as well as an eight-core AMD central processing unit (CPU). The GPU will be utilizing 40 compute units and will operate at 1172 megahertz (MHz), while the CPU will take after a customized version of AMD's Jaguar architecture, and each of its eight-core will run at 2.3 gigahertz (GHz).

This amount of graphics processing and computational power produces a lot of excess heat. Microsoft, however, has remedied this with a cooling system which is new for the home console market. The 13.5-inch by 10-inch chassis of the Xbox One X houses a cooling system similar to those on high-end gaming PCs and utilizes a custom vapor chamber and fan system.

This cooling system places the motherboard of the Xbox One X at the top of the chassis with the rest of the cooling components below it. This means that the heat from the CPU and GPU will sink into the vapor chamber of the console which will be filled with water after reaching a specific temperature. The hot water will then be siphoned by a vacuum and will be used to power the radiator fins. A centrifugal fan pulls air through the console to protect the other components from this excess heat.

With this robust cooling system, Microsoft's new Xbox One X will be ready to contend with Sony's upcoming PlayStation 5. No exact release date has been announced for the Xbox One X yet, but it is scheduled to arrive sometime in November.
