Microsoft revealed that their upcoming console called the Xbox Project Scorpio will be equipped with a highly powerful six teraflop of processing power. But players have little understanding about what a teraflop can do to make the console more powerful compared to the current consoles in the market.

In an interview with Stevivor, Xbox head Phil Spencer tried to described what a teraflop is. He compared the function of the teraflop on Project Scorpio to the use of a horsepower to measure a car's speed.

"But it's much more than that — there's other things that dictate how fast the car goes. A transmission. Its weight. It's the same with Scorpio; it's not just the number of teraflops that makes it powerful," Spencer stated.

The Xbox head also mentioned that the specs of Project Scorpio had been planned for many years. Some of the features that they planned to include in the new console include the 4K support. "We thought it would be like the jump to HD with the Xbox 360. Obviously, it's different — that was from a 4:3 ratio to 16:9 — but it's still the same idea," Spencer also said in the interview.

But Spencer remained vague when asked if he considers the upcoming Project Scorpio as an iteration of the current Xbox One or if it will be a different console altogether. According to Spencer, Project Scorpio could be considered as a member of the Xbox family.

Meanwhile, predictions suggest that the upcoming high-end Xbox Project Scorpio could come out with a high price.

Several reports claim that the upcoming device will have a minimum price tag of $800, but it could also reach as high as $2,000. However, the price is reportedly reasonable since the device could be comparable to a high-end PC.

Microsoft has yet to confirm the official release date of Xbox Project Scorpio.
