It was previously reported that the PlayStation 5 might not see a release until late 2019 or 2020 and according to a report from Expert Reviews, this may also be the same case for the Xbox Two, the follow-up to the Xbox One.

It is further explained that while the original Xbox only had a lifespan of four years, the Xbox 360 was able to enjoy a solid eight years in the market and is still going strong in some territories despite the launch of the Xbox One. However, it is noted that the 360's long lifespan may also be due to the global economy recession at the time.

The report also showcases the launch dates for the existing Xbox consoles in conjecture with the PlayStation consoles. The PlayStation 2 launched in 2000 and the original Xbox came out a year later. The Xbox 360 launched in 2005 while the PS3 didn't come out until 2006. Both the Xbox One and the PS4 launched in 2013.

According to the report, Microsoft is not likely to release the Xbox Two too early given that gamers will want to compare its capabilitites to the PlayStation 5. Many players tend to purchase their choice of console depending on three elements: price tag, console exclusive titles, and console capabilities.

If the PlayStation 5 proved to be affordable with a powerful system and numerous features while also producing a good lineup of high-quality games then the Xbox Two would have to match its competitor in order to remain relevant in the market. This is why it is likely the two devices will both launch in either 2019 or 2020, with a very small gap in between.

In regard to specs, a report from N4BB states that the Xbox Two and PS5 will both be disc-free. This means both will have to have a powerful hard drive and games will only be purchased on the digital market. It is still debated if either of the consoles will support 4K resolutions and integrated VR capabilities.
