Xiaomi may be making history as reports claim that it will release a smartphone with a dual-edge screen display. Xiaomi Arch will be the first handset to feature such a screen panel, beating the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge that has a single curved display on the right side of the device.

The edge display is set to show active notifications as well as shortcut menus. Users can also use one of the side screens to display information like weather, stocks, and updates. Details about the smartphone are scarce and the leaked photo that was sent to GizmoChina looks like a concept image, but it will be surprising to see how Xiaomi will manage the price for this feat. There is no word yet as to when the Chinese manufacturer will announce the device.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi is reported to launch the Xiaomi Mi5 equipped with a sapphire screen display and other high-end specs as it will be a prime smartphone targeting the high-end market.

According to DigiTimes, the Xiaomi Mi5 will come with the following specs and features:

  • 5.7-inch sapphire display with quad HD 2560 x 1440 screen resolution
  • 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor
  • Adreno 430 graphics chipset
  • 3 GB of RAM.
  • 20.7-megapixel main camera with Sony Exmor RS sensor

In addition, the smartphone will sport the series' usual design with clean-cut curved corners and the trademark "MI" logo on the top left corner. Also, the speaker grill and sensor will be placed in the middle and the front-camera to the right.

The handset is rumored to be announced at the Consumer Electronics Show 2015 happening next week. It is reported to be introduced alongside the Xiaomi MiPad 2 – a 7-inch tablet to feature an Intel chipset. More details are expected to surface as the trade draws near, and Xiaomi may bring more surprises at the aforementioned tech event.
