After the release of Mi Note Pro, a smartphone which features a Snapdragon 810, Xiaomi plans to unveil not one, but two flagship smartphones that are going to be incorporated with Qualcomm's upcoming flagship SoC, Snapdragon 820. While Snapdragon 810 was processed on the 20 nm architecture, Snapdragon 820 will be made on the 14 nm FinFET process, delivering additional processing performance and energy efficiency as a result.

According to Phone Arena, both devices are not expected to be unveiled until the month of November, and will feature a complete metal chassis coupled with a bezel-less screen. The biggest perk of owning the upcoming handsets is that they will not be suffering from the same overheating issues as the previous versions of Snapdragon 810. While Qualcomm managed to mitigate the issue with v1.3 of its Snapdragon 810, consumers will still be skeptical about owning a smartphone whose hardware comprises of the aforementioned SoC.

While both smartphones could be unveiled during November 2015, it is possible that Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus could be showcased during Q1, 2016, if demand for the mobile chipsets is unable to meet supply. As for the remainder of the hardware specifications, 4 GB of RAM is expected to be present in both handsets, which is the exact same amount present in Mi Note Pro. Mi 5 will most likely feature a 5.2 inch screen, while Mi 5 Plus will feature a phablet sized form factor.

Both smartphones are going to render the 1440p resolution and will be assimilated with 64 GB of internal memory. A 16 MP rear camera sensor will be present on Mi 5, in contrast to the 20 MP rear shooter present on Mi 5 Plus. Providing all the necessary power will be a 3000 mAh battery (on both products). Even though pricing details are yet to revealed, Xiaomi is known for aggressively pricing its products, meaning that both Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus are expected to feature a killer price tag in comparison to the other flagship models.
