Hot on the heels of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 release and the MIUI 7, the long-rumored Xiaomi Mi 5 made its presence felt via a recent Antutu benchmark test. On the testing website, the handset generated an impressive score of 73,075 points, which it allegedly owes to the MediaTek Helio X20 processor under its hood. 

Interestingly, the flagship smartphone was rumored to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. But when overheating issues plagued the processor, reports say that the Chinese company opted for a MediaTek chipset instead. 

According to GSM Arena, the MediaTek Helio X20 processor was launched months ago and by now, it should be ready to power up the Xiaomi flagship. 

However, there was also buzz that Xiaomi will make use of a Snapdragon 820 chipset for the Xiaomi Mi 5. GSM Arena also mentioned that should the unit use the newer Snapdragon chipset, the smartphone won't be available until next year. 

Since the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to hit the market by November, it is unlikely that the new-generation Qualcomm processor will be driving it. That said, it wouldn't be impossible to see the MediaTek Helio X20 in action in the device.

As for the rest of the specs of the smartphone, the common expectations include a 5.3-inch Quad HD display with a 554 ppi pixel density, 4 GB RAM, and 16 GB and 64 GB storage options. There won't be a microSD slot on board so the space won't be expandable. 

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is said to boast a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with dual-LED flash. However, there's no word on the secondary camera. It iwill reportedly use a 3030 mAh battery and is expected to feature a reversible USB Type-C port and a fingerprint sensor on its rear. 

Lastly, the flagship is imagined to run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with the newly introduced MIUI 7 juxtaposed on it. The Xiaomi MI 5 is rumored to get a bigger counterpart called the Mi 5 Plus, which is reportedly at 5.7 inches.
