Rising tech star Xiaomi has released a flurry of smartphones this year, which includes Redmi 2A, Mi 4i, Mi Note and the powerful Mi Note Pro. The company is now being rumored to be gearing up to release the successor of its Mi 4 handset, which will be named Mi 5. However, Mi 5 will differ from the remainder of the firm's handsets by featuring a unique fingerprint scanner, which the company has applied for in the form of a patent approval. If the patent ends up being approved, then an abundant number of Xiaomi smartphone users will be able to use the security feature when they purchase future high-end smartphones.

According to Gizmo China, Xiaomi has registered for a patent of touch buttons from State Intellectual Property Office. The patent's application number is 2015100507538, with the translated details (from Chinese to English) presented below:

"The device comprises a bottom fingerprint sensors and optical sensor provided in the terminal equipment of the cover glass; fingerprint identification circuit connected fingerprint sensor for fingerprint recognition sensor and the fingerprint information analysis and processing, obtain fingerprint analysis ; host processor, and an optical sensor and fingerprint identification circuit connections for the monitored optical sensor light information received to determine whether cover glass touch button operation; identity authentication based on fingerprint analysis results obtained fingerprint identification circuit."

Unlike several Chinese smartphones, Xiaomi will most likely be integrating a user friendly home button that will possess top-notch security features. Additionally, the website states that there will be a layer of glass placed on top of the button, which will most likely be to improve the overall looks of the smartphone. Since Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC is nearing its official release date, it is possible that Mi 5 will feature the company's upcoming flagship chipset. However, it is also possible that Xiaomi releases the device sooner, sporting the Snapdragon 810.

Similar to Mi Note Pro, Mi 5 will also feature 4 GB of RAM, a 3,000 mAh battery, and a 1440p resolution being rendered on a 5.2 inch screen size.
