Xiaomi Mi 7 release date, specs rumors 2018: Flagship smartphone not expected at the MWC 2018

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is an annual convention that showcases some of the biggest flagship offerings of the year, but for the upcoming tech expo later this February, the Xiaomi Mi 7 is not expected to be among the premium handsets to be presented.

As reported by NDTV, Xiaomi is already confirmed as one of the presentors at the MWC 2018. However, it appears that the Chinese handset maker will not be there to present the next-gen Mi smartphone. It is believed that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will be the focus of the company's big announcement early this year, but Xiaomi is said to postpone the launch indefinitely. It is possible that Xiaomi is following the other tech firms like HTC and LG on their decision to not unveil their flagship device later this month. The rumors are rife that the companies would not like to pit their products against the Samsung Galaxy S9, which is set to launch on the eve of MWC 2018.

If the Xiaomi Mi 7 will not appear at the MWC 2018, it will also avoid the comparison with Sony's Xperia XZ Pro, which is among the few flagship phones to challenge the Galaxy S9 on the same date. Nevertheless, Xiaomi's attendance at the MWC will not be for nothing, as the Mi MIX 2S is expected to be showcased in Barcelona. While the Mi MIX is not the most popular lineup from the company, it still has the potential to cause a stir for being the first handset to be launched this year with Qualcomm's latest high-end chipset, the Snapdragon 845.

Just like the Mi MIX 2S, the Xiaomi Mi 7 is also expected to receive the Snapdragon 845 processor. The premium device will run with 8 GB of RAM, while its front panel will sport a 5.65-inch display with Full HD+ resolution. The Mi 7 will also boast a 16 MP dual-lens camera build.

Aside from the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S, the company will also introduce its new Surge S2 chipset at the MWC 2018. There is no confirmed release date yet for the Xiaomi Mi 7, although it is believed that its standalone launch will happen a few weeks after the MWC 2018.
