Rumor has it that Chinese company Xiaomi is working on a curved smartphone, something of a nod to Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge. The tip came from the Weibo account of tipster KJuma, who is claiming that Xiaomi is set to release a smartphone called Mi Edge.

This device allegedly shares the same dual-edged display as that of Samsung's flagship handset but it will simply have a metal frame. Its specs sheet makes it sound like it's of formidable makings, too. The report says it will come with a 5.2-inch Quad HD display with a sharp 565 ppi pixel density.

Under the hood is said to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with a hefty 3 to 4 GB RAM. It is also reportedly getting a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera. There is no word about the quality of the snapper on the front, however, but what is known is that it will feature a fingerprint scanner.

The leak from KJuma, which was picked up by My Drivers, also claims that the Xiaomi Mi Edge will be released in October with a 2500 Yuan price tag (equivalent to $391), which should make it far more affordable than the Samsung device it's supposed to emulate.

Of course, Xiaomi has yet to confirm the existence of such device so it is best to take this report with a grain of salt. It is, nonetheless, very probable that the tech firm will dip its toes in the uncharted waters of curved displays and edged smartphones.

The latest the tech world heard from Xiaomi was during the release of its newest Android-based interface called MIUI 7, which it unveiled along with the Xiaomi Mi 4i's new color options, which include pink, yellow, sky, and black.

The rumor mill also hints the existence of an alleged 5-inch Xiaomi Mi 4c, which will serve as a Mi 4i variant.
