Images purporting to show the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was recently leaked online. In case these images are authentic, the phone may have a different look compared to its predecessor.

The photos, which were first posted on GizmoChina, show a gold fully metallic version of the phablet with curved edges. The camera lens is perched at the upper left corner with dual LED lights, while the fingerprint scanner is oriented at the top center part of the phone. The image also shows the headphone jack and the speaker holes. The phablet also seems to bear a USB Type-C port in lieu of the older microUSB port.

Prior to the circulation of these photos, various rumors about the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 phablet are already swirling online. It is said to have roughly the same screen size as its predecessor at 6.44 inches, with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. It is rumored to carry a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. Its rear camera is said to shoot as high as 12 megapixels, although its front camera will be at a low 5 megapixels. While the supposedly leaked photos show a gold version of the phablet, it is said that the device will be available in other colors as well.

Speculations are rife that two versions of the phone will be released: one with 64 GB internal storage, and another one with 128 GB. The jury is still out in terms of its expected memory, with some saying that it is at 4 GB, while others are saying it is 6 GB. As is usual with Xiaomi phones, the Mi Max 2 is expected to have a large battery capacity, pegged at 5,000 mAh, which is said to support fast charging.

Although the phone was rumored for release on April 19, the date came and went without any events launching this.

Given that these are only rumors so far, it is best to keep an eye out for an official announcement from Xiaomi to know what specs this phone will have.
