Xiaomi is confirmed to be among the participants of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 later this month. The Chinese handset maker is expected to steal the limelight once again from tech giants such as Samsung and Sony with its high-end and budget-friendly devices. Based on the recent reports, Xiaomi is set to unveil the new Mi MIX 2S handset, which will be the world's first smartphone powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chipset.

Many weeks prior to the MWC convention in Barcelona on Feb. 25, Xiaomi has already been rumored to be developing a new entry in the Mi MIX series. At first, it was believed that the company is gearing up for a brand-new Mi MIX 3 handset, but the latest leaks hint that it will be called the Mi MIX 2S instead.

From the name itself, the upcoming device will barely differ in terms of hardware specs and design from the Mi MIX 2. However, the Snapdragon 845 will be a game-changer for the device, giving it a performance boost and an additional power efficiency. Xiaomi and Qualcomm already confirmed their partnership earlier this year by featuring the Snapdragon 845 in one of Xiaomi's upcoming flagship devices. It was initially believed that the Mi 7 would be the first to boast the high-end processor, but the Mi MIX 2S will be taking its place on the MWC 2018 presentation, NDTV reported.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S is also expected to feature an improved camera over its predecessor. According to GSMArena, previous specs leak shows that the handset will use the latest Sony IMX363 camera with dual-pixel autofocus technology. This enhanced snapper will allow the device to capture high-quality photos even at night.

Rumor has it that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will borrow some of the top-notch features of Apple's latest flagship, the iPhone X. The Mi MIX 2S is already expected to have an all-screen display with very minimal bezels, just like the Mi MIX 2 last year. However, the handset may now include a notch area on the top display, making a resemblance with the iPhone X. The notch will include the required image sensors for facial recognition, and the Snapdragon 845 inside the Mi MIX 2S will support this feature with its artificial intelligence (AI) functionalities.
