Xiaomi is expanding its reach to Singapore with its January offering, the Redmi 2. The emerging Chinese manufacturer was expected to bring it to India plainly because it is the tech firm's second largest market after its native land and that the country has yet to see the handset. 

All the same, Singaporeans are in for a special treat. Come March 17, the handset, which is "as light as a feather," will be put up for sale for S$169 (that translates to US$122). The price is not to be taken as the definitive aspect of the device because it says nothing about what's inside. 

The Redmi 2 boasts sharp and crisp visuals even for its 4.7-inch IPS display set at 720p. It gets its impressive more-than-mid-range power, surprisingly, from an entry-level 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor that is clocked at 1.2 GHz. Pair that up with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB storage that allows up to 32 GB expansion and the tech world has what may be one of the best budget handsets there is. 

For the camera fix, at every user's disposal is an 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter with LED flash and HD recording on the go. Its 2-megapixel front-facing cam will do for taking selfies. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 comes in wonderful color variants. There's the staple Black and White models, then there are Yellow, Pink and Green hues for users who like it vibrant and extreme. 

Its dual-SIM capability as well as its 2200 mAh battery unit should be endearing to users who live in Singapore. Integrated in the device is the QuickCharge technology, which will juice up about 30 percent of battery life in the Redmi 2 for just 30 minutes. It is caked with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and runs Android KitKat 4.4.4 fused with the MIUI 6. 

While it was expected from Xiaomi to bring the Mi4 to the island-state, it is still great to see the Redmi 2 cross a new border.
