Xiaomi Redmi 5 release date news, specs rumors: Telecom press leak reveals smartphone's 5.7-inch HD+ display

The public has been hearing a lot about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 for the past several weeks. However, some people may have already forgotten that the Redmi Note brand has its smaller version. Based on the recent reports, the Chinese handset maker is also gearing up for the release of Xiaomi Redmi 5, which is further supported by a leaked listing from a Chinese telecommunications company.

As reported by GSMArena, alleged renders of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 was spotted on a Chinese telecom network webpage. The listing was taken down immediately, although some people were able to take a screen cap of the images. It was revealed that the Redmi 5 will sport a 5.7-inch display with full HD+ resolution. While it is not yet confirmed, an HD+ screen suggests a 1,440x720 pixel resolution.

It is also evident on the leaked renders that the Xiaomi Redmi 5 will have slimmer bezels, resulting to an immersive all-screen experience. The smartphone is expected to have an 18:9 aspect ratio, following the latest trend among the premium mobile devices this 2017.

As per XDA Developers, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 design is comparable to a variant of the Redmi Note 4 based on the leaks. Furthermore, the upcoming smartphone is shown to have a full metal body with plastic portions on the lower top and bottom panel.

In terms of the internal specs, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 is rumored to have a Qualcomm 625 SoC, similar to Redmi Note 4, Mi Max 2 and Mi A1. The mobile processor will be accompanied by a 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage memory. The camera department features a 12MP rear-positioned image snapper and 5MP front-facing shooter. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is packed with 3,300mAh battery.

According to the latest scoop, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 will become available in the Chinese market on Dec. 10, with a CNY 1,399 price tag. This is equivalent to USD $211, although the international launch of Redmi 5 has yet to be announced.
