Following its successful foray into the Indian smartphone market with the Redmi 2 Prime, China-based Xiaomi has followed up with another made-in-India handset. The company has just announced the Redmi Note Prime.

The new Redmi Note Prime is a mid-specs unit with a 5.5-inch IPS display with 720 x 1280 resolution, a Snapdragon 410 processor, and 2 GB of RAM.

Its 16-GB internal storage is expandable via microSD and it has a 3,100-mAh battery. The Redmi Note Prime has a 13-MP rear camera, while the front shooter is 5 MP. The new iteration also has dual-SIM and 4G support.

However, while the Redmi Note Prime is a current iteration, Xiaomi decided not to use the latest platform for the device. Rather, the Redmi Note Prime carries Android 4.4 KitKat layered with Xiaomi's own MiUI 7 interface.

Speaking about the release, Manu Jain, Xiaomi's India Head, said that one of the most noted features of the new iteration is its expanded memory, dual SIM options, and a high-capacity battery. Jain said, "With the launch of Redmi Note Prime, we are glad to provide our Mi Fans an opportunity to upgrade to an even more powerful smartphone with an expanded memory and dual-SIM capabilities."

The new Redmi Note Prime is available on Mi.com for INR 8,499 (around $125). The new iteration will also be an Amazon India exclusive.

On the exclusivity, Fone Arena quoted Noor Patel, director of category management of Amazon India, as saying, "We are excited to be the partner of choice for Xiaomi and offer our customers exclusive access to the new Redmi Note Prime. Xiaomi has been one of the most popular smartphone brands on Amazon.in, witnessing a continuous growth in demand. We see this as a great opportunity to offer customers across India the ease, convenience & joy of shopping for another great offering from the company."
